Mrs Ibim Semenitari, the Acting Managing Director, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), on Thursday commended Edo Government for the release of two hectares of land to the commission.

A statement issued in Port Harcourt by Mr Chijioke Amu-Nnadi, the commission’s Head of Corporate Affairs unit, said that the land, located in Benin City, was meant for the commission’s new office complex.

It said that Semenitari made the commendation during her two-day inspection tour of NDDC projects in Edo.

Besides building its office complex, the commission would consider building a training school to optimize usage of the vast land space, the managing director was quoted as saying.

“Gov. Adams Oshiomhole`s prompt response to our request is truly commendable and a demonstration of his commitment to supporting NDDC in achieving its mandate of facilitating development of the region.

“This is the kind of support and partnership that we have been advocating in ensuring that we all work together to improve the lives of our people.

“The land is spacious to build not just a state office, and as such, we are going to look into building other structures for optimal use of the space available.

“In view of this development, the commission might consider building a training school or some other facility that could be beneficial to the people,” Semenitari was quoted as saying.

The statement further said that the existing design for the state office might be reviewed to accommodate a training school, adding that Semenitari directed the commission’s Design Department to immediately work out options for the most favourable utilization of the land. (NAN)
