Nigeria Has Highest Number of Drug Convicts Worldwide– NDLEA

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) will go after owners and operators of supermarkets and confectionery  selling cookies, biscuits and other products laced with illicit substances.

National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has said that Nigeria has the highest number of people serving jail term for drug related offences worldwide.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the NDLEA Commander in Minna, Mr Iweajunwa Okechukwu said this during the 2015 UN Drug Free Day in the state.

Okechukwu said “There is no doubt that as a country, the menace of drug abuse and trafficking is one of the biggest problems staring us in the face today.

“All over the world, Nigerians are notorious for drug trafficking. We have the highest number of traffickers serving jail terms more than any other country in the world.”

Okechukwu added that the recent Indonesian Execution reaffirms his claim, he said in Niger state, drugs like tramadol, rohypnol and diazepam are abused.

He also said that Librium, Cough syrups with Codeine, Sukudia (suck and die), Glue, Solutions, petrol, Zakami, lizard dung and Indian hemp are the other drugs and substances abused in the state.

Okechukwu strongly advised the people of the state to desist from drug abuse and report illegal drug dealings to the agency.
