Nigerian Stock Exchange Loses 74 Basis Points

The primary index of Nigeria’s local bourse, the All Share Index, lost 0.57% after losing 0.68% yesterday. Investors on the back of the 3 day gains made on Friday, Monday and Tuesday took advantage to profit, increasing the sell pressure. The index ended at 30,025.62 basis points, losing 74 basis points. Market Capitalization for the market at the close of trading today was N10.31 trillion.

The total number of deals recorded on the floor increased by 7.01% in comparison with a 7.36% reduction recorded yesterday as 2,962 deals were struck on the floor of the exchange. The total volume of shares traded on the floor increased by 36.88% compared to a 15.42% reduction recorded yesterday, while the total value of transactions recorded dropped by 18.07% despite increasing by 6.75% yesterday.

The Gainers list was led by BETAGLASS which gained N2.15, closely followed by GLAXOSMITH and PZ which gained 0.99 and 0.92 Kobo respectively. The Losers list was however led by yesterdays top gainer, as GUINNESS lost N8.60 to close at N142.20, closely followed by OKOMUOIL and UNILEVER which lost N3.47 and N1.98 respectively.

The NSE 30 index went down by 0.57%, while the Banking Sector index lost 0.32%, however, the Oil and Gas index gained 0.83%

The top five most actively traded shares by volume on the exchange today were ACCESS, FIDELITYBANK, DIAMONDBNK, GUARANTY and FBNH with a combined total of 202 million shares traded.

Market breadth closed negative as BETAGLASS led 17 Gainers against 26 Losers led by GUINESS.

Year-To-Date currently stands at -13.36%.
