Nigeria loses top monarch

Late Owa Ale of Ikare

The Owa- Ale of lkare in Akoko North East LGA of Ondo State, Oba Samuel Kolapo Adegbite-Adedoyin, has died aged 85.

Oba Adedoyin ruled for 48 years before his demise, which was confirmed on Monday although an official announcement has yet to be made.

The Herald gathered that the respected monarch passed on after a brief illness at his palace located in the Okorun area of Ikare.

He was a member of the State Council of Obas and the President of a group of Ondo traditional rulers under 130 Crown Obas.

Before ascending the throne of his forefathers, Oba Adedoyin practised as a lawyer, having qualified in the United Kingdom.

A man of many parts, he was a former lay President of African Church worldwide before his ascension to the throne.

Reports reaching this newspaper confirmed that residents of the ancient town have been wearing a mournful look since the monarch’s demise became public knowledge.
