The World Cup is one of the biggest events in the world and is also one of the most watched. The 2018 World Cup is no different and while there has been a drop in viewership in the United States due to their failure to qualify, there are still many people glued to the TV.

What this causes is that stars who are either seen as handsome or heroic are suddenly more noticeable.

So was the case of Ahmed Musa. The striker scored 2 goals to give Nigeria the win against Iceland and as a result is the most celebrated player in the country at the moment.

The Leicester forward had a modest 170k followers on Instagram before facing the men from Iceland on Friday, thanks to his heroics, Musa now has 332k followers which is almost double of what he had before. He is now the 5th most followed Nigerian player behind Alex Iwobi (957k followers), John Obi Mikel (717k followers), Victor Moses (483k followers) and Kelechi Iheanacho (459k followers).

He isn’t the only one to have gained a huge fanbase due to his ability, Iceland’s Rúrik Gíslason has been melting hearts everywhere and the midfielder’s rise was even more meteoric. From 30k followers, Gislason’s Instagram following grew to 362,000

Musa’s followership could rise even more if he is able to repeat his heroics against Argentina, he is no stranger to facing the South American team as he also scored against them in the 2014 World Cup.
