A sickle cell patient, Oghenevwegba Dafe has narrated his harrowing experience with the condition as he clocked 23 years.

He took to Twitter to narrate the experience in a series of tweets on Sunday.

Born in 1997, Dafe said he had suffered excruciating pain throughout his life during which he suffered depression and became detached from friends.

He said the pain, which he described as “permanent, physical suffering”, became so much that he became “cold-hearted”.

He added that he was driven to the point of a mental breakdown because of the constant pain.

He wrote: “I’m a sickle cell Warrior.

“I’m 23 today.

“Wish me a happy birthday

“It’s been God.
“1997 I was born with pain
“My moms and my pops pass it down to me
“I’m talkin’ about permanent, physical suffering
“And through the years that pain became my friend; sedated with strong pain reliefs as little kid, I built a tolerance for drugs, addicted to the medicine
“It made me cold-hearted, I won’t play sports
“I barely joke or play games, take it how you want
“My (being) handicapped took its toll on my sanity; A nigga is depressed
“Happy birthday oghenevwegba Dafe may God bless you!!”
