The All Progressives Congress, Kwara Chapter has reacted to the cancellation of the 55th Independence Anniversary parade by the Kwara State Government over security concerns.

In a statement issued by the state Publicity Secretary of the APC, Alhaji Sulyman Buhuri, the party said the greatest security threat to the prevailing peace in Kwara State is the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

The APC noted that barely two days after the leadership of the PDP threatened “spiral violent activities”, there are security reports that certain individuals have been mobilised with the intention of unlawfully disrupting the Independence Day celebration.

The party said it is not a mere coincidence and urged security agencies to start their investigation from within the PDP fold.

The party commended the Kwara State Government on the wise decision to cancel the event, saying, indeed, public safety is more paramount.

It will be noted that the Kwara State Government had cancelled the Independence Day celebration due security concerns.

According to the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Dr Muideen Akorede, said the government received genuine information on the plan to disrupt the programme from outside the state adding that since the safety of the people is paramount to government; it has no option than to cancel.

The Spokesman, however, noted that the state is safe but “for certain elements in the state always hell bent on disrupting government programmes”.
