The ongoing restriction of movement in Kaduna State is forcing bandits to attack weddings and other social gatherings in search of food.

A resident of Karaukarau village, Giwa Local Government Area of the state, Malam Sani Bakali, disclosed this on Thursday.

He said bandits attacked the village and abducted 13 women on Tuesday as a wedding was ongoing but the villagers rose up against them.

According to him, the villagers’ actions in quickly mobilising and challenging the bandits forced them to release 10 of the abducted women while making away with three nursing mothers.

“You know the curfew imposed as a result of the coronavirus had not been easy for the bandits as they now have short supplies of food. The hoodlums now attack wedding venues and gatherings.

“So, on Tuesday, there was a wedding in our village and the hoodlums stormed the venue and took 13 women,” The Nation quoted Bakali as saying.

He noted that the Divisional Police Headquarters in Giwa local government had been informed about the incident.

However, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Mohammed Jalige said the matter had not been brought to his knowledge.
