Ekiti Monarchs Declare Support for Fayose, Warns Against Sabotage

Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers led by Onitaji of Itaji, Oba Adamo Babalola yesterday rose in unison to publicly support the incoming administration of the Governor Elect, Mr Ayo Fayose warning that any attempt to subvert the mandate freely given Fayose, will be rejected by the people.

The royal council also commiserated with the family of the former chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Mr. Omolafe Aderiye, who was assassinated last week in the heat of the legal crisis instituted to disqualify Fayose in the state.

In a statement signed by its Chairman and the Onitaji of Itaji, Oba Adamo Babalola in Ado Ekiti yesterday, after an emergency meeting, the royal fathers emphatically stressed that the Ekiti people wanted Fayose by voting massively for him during the June 21 governorship election. They warned that the people’s decision was sacrosanct and must be respected.

The traditional rulers, who expressed concern about the lingering tension in the state over the legal tussle between All Progressives Congress (APC) and Fayose, culminating in the closure of all the courts by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Ayodeji Daramola, said the scheming induced the political violence in the State.

“We condemn in strongest terms these occurrences that led to destruction of life and property. We believe that Ekiti State is greater than any individual or group of persons. We should steer clear of any act that can set Ekiti ablaze.

“We appeal to the gladiators to sheathe their swords and prevent further aggravation of the already bad situation.

“We are of the view that the people of the state had spoken through the ballot on 21st June 21-, 2014 and a mandate freely given. Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers, therefore, feels strongly that this mandate should be actualised as any attempt to truncate it may further aggravate the situation,” the royal fathers stated.

The council however expressed implicit confidence in the ability of the state judiciary to dispense justice on any matter impartially, urging that the body must continue to prove that it remains a dependable bastion of hope for the common man.
