The Coordinator of the National Information Center, Mike Omeri has said that the Federal Government is pursuing active leads and is close to finding the Chibok girls.

Omeri spoke to journalists at the Center’s press briefing on Monday. He said that the capture of a seior intelligence officer in Boko Haram had provided fresh leads that security agents were exploiting to close the gap on the location of the Chibok girls.

Omeri said, “We are moving closer to finding the abducted girls and we have identified a number of leads. The arrest of the Boko Haram intelligence operative is assisting us in this regard. I can’t speak much on this because the information is classified.”

On the escape of 60 women and girls from Boko Haram captivity in Borno, Omeri said he could not yet confirm the development as he was yet to be briefed by officials in Borno.

Commenting on complaints that the NIC was keeping the Chibok community in the dark over the fate of the abducted girls, Omeri said, “This centre has been giving out information in the media and everything is in the open. So, I don’t know what they meant by saying we are keeping them in the dark; if they want security report, I don’t know about that. But we can’t give out classified information,” he stressed.
