Gunmen attack Ondo police checkpoint, murder inspector

Some unknown gunmen on Monday attacked some policemen a checkpoint along Isua-Ise Akoko road of Ondo state, killing an inspector simply identified as Lasisi.

The gunmen, who reportedly emerged from a bush nearby, opened fire on the deceased together with his colleagues attached to Isua Akoko divisional police station.

“The policemen have been on that road for the past one year. Today, some hoodlums just came from nowhere and opened fire on them at the checkpoint. While Mr. Lasisi was killed other policemen at the checkpoint ran for their lives,” a source said.

“After he was killed, the hoodlums went away with his gun. As we talk, his body has been deposited at the morgue of  the Ipe Akoko General Hospital while policemen had moved into the bush trailing the hoodlums.”

Femi Joseph, the state’s police public relations officer, confirmed the incident.

He said the Joseph said the men of the command were already on the trail of the suspects while an investigation into the matter had commenced.
