A housewife, Mrs. Joy Emmanuel Sunday, has explained why she allegedly orchestrated the abduction of her husband in Akwa Ibom State.

Sunday, 40, made the disclosure while being paraded alongside 28 others for offences including kidnapping, robbery and child theft by the state police command in Uyo, the state capital on Friday.

The Herald learnt that the victim’s husband, Mr. Emmanuel Sampson Ebong, an indigene of Ntak Obio Akpa in Oruk Anam Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State was kidnapped by a gang which demanded N10 million ransom.

However, the victim was eventually freed after the ransom was negotiated down to N2 million and paid.

The kidnappers were arrested while sharing the loot.

Speaking to the media while being paraded, Sunday said she got her husband kidnapped because he starved her of sex and abandoned his children.

“I arranged my husband’s kidnapping because for a long time he abandoned me with his children.

“Even when my father and mother-in-law were alive he abandoned me. He never cared for his children. I did menial jobs such as weeding people’s farms to feed my children and pay their school fees.

“One of the children completed secondary school and I approached my husband to plan how to send him to learn a trade since he refused to send him to university but he husband shunned me.

“The major reason I arranged his kidnapping is that he refused to have sex with me and does not take care of me and the children,” she said.

“The kidnapper that collected the ransom of N2 million never gave me my share and I didn’t even see the money,” she added.

On his part, the victim, Mr. Emmanuel Sampson Ebong, said he was kidnapped in his compound on July 21, 2022.
