Nigerian singer and music executive, Bankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, has debunked speculations surrounding the discovery of his former signee, Wizkid, revealing that the ‘Ojuelegba’ crooner was found in the studio, not on social media.

Contrary to common belief that Banky W stumbled upon Wizkid through a tweet pleading for a record deal, the music veteran clarified the situation in a video message making waves on various platforms. He explained that the old tweet from Wizkid was part of a playful exchange on social media, emphasizing that the discovery occurred in the studio setting.

In the video, Banky W urged fans to focus on letting God and their helpers find them engaged in meaningful endeavors. He shared, “Let God and the helper that he would use find you doing something. For some people, God will only find you tweeting.

Banky W went on to reveal the true nature of the moment when he and Wizkid began working together, stating, “I didn’t find Wizkid from him tweeting; I found him while he was working. I heard his music when I was just listening to a bunch of unsigned artists.

He recounted the early days, shedding light on Wizkid’s dedication as a back-up singer for Kellz at an event, showcasing his commitment to the craft. Banky W clarified that the playful tweets were not the initiation of their collaboration, emphasizing that they had been working together for about a year before the social media banter.

Banky W signed Wizkid to his label, Empire Mates Entertainment (EME), in 2009, and since then, Wizkid has risen to become one of Africa’s most influential music stars.
