The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested key members of Adamawa Governor Murtala Nyako’s administration to answer allegations of fraud, theft and misappropriation of State funds running into billions of Naira.

Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Kobeis Aris and the Commissioners for Finance and Local Governments are the officials who were picked up and detained by the EFCC since last Friday.

The three officers had initially been interrogated at the Gombe divisional office of the EFCC but have now been transferred to EFCC headquarters in Abuja for further interrogation.

A source within the EFCC told PUNCH that the suspicious transactions under investigation took place between 2011 and 2012.

“Some of the funds came from the Joint Local Government Account. Others were through the Special Projects Unit. We are looking into alleged diversion of these funds. So, it became imperative to invite these three officers on Friday. They are still in custody and may be admitted to bail pending the conclusion of investigation.”
