The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has shunned the move by the factional National Chairman of the People Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff to conduct another gubernatorial primary election in Edo state.

Sheriff had accused the electoral commission of not monitoring the Edo state governorship primaries conducted by the Makarfi-led caretaker committee of the party.

Sheriff yesterday in Abuja while inaugurating his version of the primaries election committee for Edo State said: “INEC is a creation of law and is created to monitor political parties. We are told officially that INEC did not send anybody to monitor the election”.

In reaction to the claim, the INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Oluwole Osaze Uzzi, while speaking to journalists during a telephone conversation said: “I am not aware of claims by anyone to the contrary, but all I can say is that INEC’s staff witnessed the PDP governorship and they are in the process of submitting their report”.
