Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has denied that he is a member of the People’s Democratic Party insisting that he resigned from the party before picking the governorship ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, for the April 11 election which he eventually won.

He spoke in response to the state chairman of the PDP in Benue, Emmanuel Agbo who had told newsmen in Makurdi on Friday that Ortom is still a bona fide member of the party considering that he had not notified the party of his defection.

In a statement issued by his special adviser on media and ICT, Tahav Agerzua, the Governor said the claim by the PDP is a clear indication that the opposition party had not recovered from the trauma of defeat in the last April election.

It explained that Ortom resigned from the PDP on 9th December, 2015 and handed over his resignation letter to the PDP ward chairman in Nzorov council ward of Guma local government area, Mr. Felix Agbaka.

“The Federal High Court in Makurdi dismissed the PDP case which had sought to establish that the governor was a member of the PDP,” the statement noted.

It continued that the people of Benue were unanimously determined to throw off the yoke of the PDP which brought them untold hardship and bad governance that resulted in the collapse of all government institutions in the state
