Former President Goodluck Jonathan has lauded the decision by immediate-past South African President, Jacob Zuma, to step down from office after his party demanded his resignation.

Jonathan made this known in a Facebook post he personally signed on Thursday afternoon.

Jacob Zuma had initially refused to resign but changed his mind on the eve of a no-confidence vote at the instance of his party, the African National Congress (ANC).

Jonathan himself rose to international prominence after he conceded defeat to Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 presidential election, averting what could have led the nation into crisis.

Commending 75-year-old Zuma for his decision to resign, Jonathan said, “Former President Jacob Zuma is a great pan Africanist and patriot who has put his nation’s needs above his own. Such an action, which bring about political stability, is commendable and worthy of emulation. GEJ.”
