Late Bullish Trading Leads to 0.22% Gain

The primary index of the Nigerian Stock Exchange gained 0.22% despite profit taking and sub-par demand. It had gained 0.14% on Friday after a five day losing streak and bearish sentiments were rife in the early stages of trading today. Despite this, the All Share Index gained 65.94 basis points to close at 30,231.16 basis points at the close of trading today. Market Capitalization for the market at the close of trading today was N10.38 trillion.

The total number of deals recorded on the floor reduced by 20.03% against an increase of 3.27% recorded on Friday, while the total volume of shares traded on the floor dipped by 14.35% against a 16.27% reduction recorded on Friday, even as the total value of transactions recorded reduced by 30.34% against a 49.52% reduction recorded on Friday.

The top five most actively traded shares by volume on the exchange today were ACCESS, DIAMONDBNK, ZENITHBANK, CORNERST and UBA with a combined total of 79.1 million shares traded. ACCESS led the chart with 33.8 million of its shares traded today, while DIAMONDBNK followed with 13 million of its shares exchanged on the floor today. 9.9 million ZENITHBANK shares were traded today, while 9.3 million CORNERST shares were traded today and 9.2 million shares of UBA Plc were exchanged on the floor today.

Market breadth closed positive as FO led 25 Gainers against 15 Losers led by NB.

Year-To-Date currently stands at -12.77%.
