A Federal High Court in Lagos, on Thursday sentenced a 22-year-old mechanic, Zanna Bulama, to one year imprisonment, for trafficking 100gm of Cannabis Sativa, also known as hemp.
The convict was charged by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), before Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo, for dealing in restricted narcotic.
Bulama pleaded guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah Aernan, then reviewed the facts of the case, and tendered in evidence, a written statement of the convict.
Aernan also tendered the bulk of the drug exhibit, a request for scientific aid form, a drug analysis form as well as remnants of the restricted substance before the court.
The items were, accordingly, admitted as exhibits.
Delivering judgment, Justice Oguntoyinbo found Bulama guilty as charged and consequently, convicted him.
The judge sentenced him to a term of one year imprisonment, beginning from the date of his arrest.
The prosecutor had told the court that the convict committed the offence on Dec. 4, 2017.
He said that the convict was arrested at Alade Market in Ikeja, Lagos State, with the restricted narcotic, measuring about 100gm.
Aernan said that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 11 (c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap. N30, Laws of the Federation, 2004.
The convict had begged the court to tamper justice with mercy and give him another chance to become a better person. (NAN)
