Nigerians have taken to social media to condemn the dastardly killing of a butcher over alleged blasphemy in Sokoto, the second of such public execution in a year in the North West state.

A mob of bloodthirsty Muslim extremists stoned the butcher, identified as Usman Buda, to death on Sunday for alleged blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad.

The incident occurred at the Sokoto abattoir.

Confirming the killing on Sunday, the Sokoto State Police Command said it has launched an investigation into the incident.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ahmad Rufai, said,  “On 25th June 2023 at about 0955hrs, a distress call was received at about 0920hrs that one Usman Buda ‘M’ of Gwandu LGA a butcher at Sokoto Abbatoir allegedly blasphemed the holy prophet Muhammad (SAW).

“As a result, he was mobbed and attacked by some Muslim faithful who inflicted serious injuries on him.

“Upon receiving the information, the Commissioner of Police, Area Commander Metro and DPO Kwanni led a team of policemen and all other operational commanders to the scene.

“On arrival, the mob escaped the scene and left the victim unconscious; where he was rescued and taken to Usmanu Danfodio Teaching Hospital Sokoto (UDUTH) for treatment and was later confirmed dead at the said Hospital.”

On May 12, 2022, a second-year Christian student, was stoned to death by a mob of Muslim fellow students before her body was burnt before recognition at Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto.

Meanwhile, many Nigerians have called on the police to ensure that the perpetrators are arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law.

@Rabbiklo wrote, “The Sokoto police division is not serious. How did the mob know about what he was saying? There must be a target zero who initiated the attack. Arrest that person and charge him for murder. That’s the only way this senseless fighting for g$d will stop.”

@BenDechima wrote, “Where was the police when the stoning of innocent man took place? Nigeria Police is part of the murder.”

@AkanUmoetuk wrote, “Another murder of innocent soul in Sokoto, after Deborah – what’s going on? The Sultan is quiet, the State Government is quiet and Sokoto Police Command, just like before are giving lame excuse for not arresting the culprits.”

@Habatmedia wrote, “Where are the people that killed Deborah… If they don’t bring those ones into justice I don’t see that part of the country moving forward… Let Allah fight for His religion. Developed countries don’t behave like this… God bless Nigeria.”

@chymaker wrote, “The same Sokoto where Deborah was killed because of blasphemy? Isn’t this getting out of hand?”

@midala_CEO wrote, Are northern states under Nigerian law and order restrictions? Are they using the same constitution? @officialABAT should address this issue because it’s one of the fears that comes with Muslim Muslim ticket.”
