Nigerians React To Lai Mohammed’s Latest Claims On Jonathan Arms Procurement

1 Min Read

The Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has drawn the ire of some Nigerians after he said the Jonathan administration bought substandard arms and ammunition for the nation’s troops.

The Minister of Information had said “The weapons, ammunitions and equipment which the former president said he bought were refurbished and lacked the basic components and spare parts. Additionally, the ammunition bought for both high-calibre and small weapons have mostly expired, incompatible with weapons and grossly inadequate.

“It is pertinent to state that the ammunition he was referring to were back-loaded because they explode within the barrel when fired, thus leading to deaths and injuries among soldiers.”

This is despite other claims by the minister that no arms were bought, despite another claim attributed to him that said Nigeria has won the war against Boko Haram, even as the current administration has not procured any arms as former President Jonathan recently pointed out in Geneva.
