The Nigeria Police Force has foiled an attempt to kidnap Mr Femi Otedola, Chairman of Forte oil Plc, by a notorious three-man kidnapping gang.

The suspects are; Ikechukwu Daniel, 28, indigene of Imo state and mastermind of the gang, Adeyemi Kayode, 29, a serving officer of the NSCDC, from Oyo State.

The third suspect, Ayodele Temitayo, a native of Oyo state, claimed to have been dismissed from 213 Battalion Maiduguri in 2015.

According to a statement by the Force Spokesman, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Don Awunah, the task was accomplished by the IG’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT) on June 23.

“The arrest was achieved through coordinated intelligence gathering and deployment of technical investigative tools that spanned several weeks,” he said.

He said the suspects made confessional statements on successful high-profile kidnappings they had carried out.

Awunah said two AK47 rifles loaded with live ammunition were recovered from the suspects.

He said efforts are currently being intensified to apprehend other members of the gang and extend investigations to their other criminal enterprise.

“The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris wishes to restate the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to clamp down on all criminal activities across the country.

He reassured law abiding citizens that criminal elements would eventually be apprehended and charged to court.

“The IG urges Nigerians to avail the Police with relevant information that will help in the crusade against crime; as such information would be treated with utmost confidentiality,” he said. (NAN)
