Rick Ross: A Timeline of His Legal Troubles

Rick Ross has had his fair share of legal issues. Within the month of June alone, the rapper has been arrested two times.
Most recently, on Wednesday (June 24), Ross was arrested and denied bail after allegedly kidnapping a man and assaulting him with a gun during an incident that took place in his house on June 7.

Below is a timeline of the legal troubles Rick Ross has faced throughout his career as compiled by Billboard.com:

January 2008: Rick Ross is arrested in Miami on charges of firearm and marijuana possession.
August 2008: Rick Ross is hit with a lawsuit from DJ Vlad claiming assault and battery. According to Vlad, Ross “orchestrated a brutal attack upon DJ Vlad” at the Ozone Awards for asking him about his life as a correctional officer.
June 2010: Drug kingpin ‘Freeway’ Ricky Ross files a copyright-infringement lawsuit against Ross for $10 million, claiming the rapper based his persona off his life. Other defendants included Warner Bros. Records, Universal Music and Jay Z. Rick Ross won the three-year-long case after Judge Borden stated that the rapper’s persona is protected under expressive speech.
March 2011: Ross is arrested for marijuana possession in downtown Shreveport, Los Angeles. Police searched Ross’ hotel room after they received complaints of a strong odour of marijuana coming from his room.
August 2011: Ross is sued, yet again, for trademark infringement. Rapper Teflon Don, born Donald Askey Jr., filed a lawsuit against Ross, DJ Khaled and their label records claiming that Rick Ross and all involved in his Teflon Don album infringed on his brand, preventing his growth and success as a rapper.
June 2014: Ross is taken into custody on June 27 after performing at 2014 SuperJam in Greensboro, North Carolina, on a warrant for misdemeanour possession of marijuana. The arrest stemmed from a year-old warrant for another arrest related to marijuana possession the year prior. Ross reportedly failed to appear in court for the 2013 violation.
June 2015: Ross is arrested for yet another misdemeanor marijuana charge after police ‘identified marijuana in his vehicle’ at a traffic stop in Fayette County, Georgia. Ross not only makes bail, but he reportedly pays for the bail of other inmates he befriended.
June 2015: Ross is arrested on June 24 at his Fayette County, Georgia. home for kidnapping, aggravated assault and aggravated battery stemming from an incident that occurred on June 7. Ross allegedly assaulted Jonathan Zamudio with a handgun then forced him to stay in a guest house of Ross’ mansion against his will. He’s currently being held in Fayette County jail without bail, alongside associate Nadrian L. James.
