Afrobeat sensation Seun Kuti has shed light on the challenging aftermath of an incident in May 2023 when he confronted a police officer. The encounter made headlines as a viral video captured the musician striking the officer in uniform.
Seun’s frustration had stemmed from the officer damaging the back bumper of the car in which his family was traveling. In the heat of the moment, he retaliated against the officer, leading to his detainment and subsequent appearance before the Lagos State Magistrate’s Court.
The acclaimed artist shared his ordeal during an Instagram live video, expressing his weariness of his name being consistently associated with legal matters involving fellow artists like Sam Larry and Naira Marley. He urged people not to involve him in their issues.
Seun disclosed the significant impact the incident had on his career, revealing that he missed out on approximately six major performances during that period. He emphasized that he stood up for his family’s safety, but the situation escalated to a point where his career was jeopardized.
He lamented how Nigerians seemingly turned a blind eye to the injustice he faced, and he stressed that he was painted as the aggressor in the situation.
