A Lagos-based socialite, Farida Abdulkabir better known as Farida Sobowale, has blamed her failed N100 million marriage among other life’s frustrations for her attempted suicide on the Third Mainland Bridge.

She stated this in a voice note wherein she also apologised after a video of her suicide attempt on Thursday went viral.

In the video of her attempted suicide, the socialite is seen being pacified by Good Samaritans who advised her that there was no gain in ending her life.

The owner of House of Phreedah was eventually helped into her Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) which zoomed off immediately.

In her voice note, Abdulkabir said her lavish wedding to another socialite, Demola Okulaja ended abruptly two months after.

She said this coupled with other frustrations made her depressed.

The socialite, whose beauty lounge and spa is located at Akerele Street, Surulere, Lagos, said this was not the first time she would attempt suicide in a bid to end all her pains.

Abdulkabir said, “Friends and families warned me not to go into the marriage. They told me that the man only wanted my money but I didn’t listen.

“It was love that pushed me into this. He told me that he was going to be with me, make me bear children for him.

“I am so sorry for putting my children in such a position. I would not have forgiven myself if I had abandoned them after committing suicide.

“I have forgiven my ex-husband. May God provide him with another wife.”
