Insurgent group Boko Haram has threatened to attack the Akwa Ibom State, according to reports from senior officials.
According to a statement from Information Commissioner, Aniekan Umanah, the group sent the threats via SMS messages, and said it would attack public places like churches, markets and schools.
Members of the public have been asked to be security conscious and report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities.
The government said security operatives were on high alert, and had increased surveillance in the State.
The government, however frowned on the return of commercial motorcycles in Uyo despite the ban placed on their activities by government.
