U.S. Records First Measles Death in More than a Decade

United States of America recently recorded its first Measles death since 2003 when a woman in Washington died from pneumonia caused by measles.

Mark Schleiss, Professor of Paediatrics and director of the Division of Infectious Diseases and Immunology at the University of Minnesota told Forbes that her death is a preventable death.

He said “This should have been a preventable death, and I think her death is a tragedy. Measles is a disease we know we can control with effective immunizations. For this to happen is really unfortunate and unnecessary.

The Woman’s case is the 11th case recorded in Washington in 2015.

Measles was eradicated from the U.S. in 2000 but Forbes reports that experts fear that may change with the recent increase in cases and outbreaks.
