Kaduna State Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero has commenced the process of converting the Kafanchan Campus of the Kaduna State University (KASU) into a full-fledged University of Technology.

Speaking at a campaign rally Wednesday, the Governor said the technical committee for the establishment of the university has already been inaugurated. The committee is chaired by Professor A. Rasheed, Vice Chancellor of the Bayero University, Kano.

Yero said the move is to provide additional admission space for indigenes of the state seeking tertiary education saying “last year, Kaduna state came best in the North and third overall in the country in WAEC result. That has increased the number of candidates seeking admission into university. We have decided to upgrade the Kafanchan Campus to an autonomous university so that we can build more faculties in Kafanchan and KASU in Kaduna. This will create more opportunities for our students.”

The Governor urged people in Southern Kaduna to vote PDP candidates at all levels adding that “the party has completed several projects in this zone. The Jonathan led administration under the PDP has constructed Gurara Dam in this zone, we are constructing the first fast rail line in the country between Kaduna and Abuja, there is the 30 megawatt in Gurara Dam project part of which will be provided for the people of this zone.”

Yero said in just two years his administration completed several roads, empowered over 13,000 youths and women, paid backlog pension and gratuity arrears with over N13Billion, settled substantial amount of loans owed by the state and improved security and education.

He said “we are committed to completing all ongoing projects across the state saying “we have not abandoned any ongoing projects in the state. Our administration has also initiated some additional projects.”

Yero pledged to initiate several people oriented projects in the state “two years is not enough to assess any administration. If we are elected by the grace of God, we shall continue to work hard to improve the living conditions of the entire people of Kaduna State.”

Also Speaking at the rally, Director General of the Yero 2015 Campaign Organization and Former Minister of Aviation, Hon Felix Hassan Hyet said the PDP remains the preferred political platform for majority of Nigerians.

He said “Nigerians have no alternative to PDP, there is no vacancy in Aso Rock Abuja and there is no vacancy in Kaduna Government House. We don’t want a governor that is specialized in demolition, we want a governor that is specialized in development, we don’t want a governor that has no respect for the elders. We don’t want an old president, we want a young President.”

Also speaking at the event, the Kaduna State for Poverty Alleviation, Alhaji Abdurrahman Ibrahim Jere said the people of Kagarko Local Government Area will vote massively for PDP during the next polls.

He said “we know the total number of votes in Kagarko and we know how to secure all the votes on elections day. I want to assure you that the PDP will win overwhelmingly in this area and we are not going to vote on religious or ethnic lines. We are supporting all PDP candidates from president down to State Assembly elections. God created us with different religions and tribes to live in peace with one another and we are not going to allow politics to divide us.”

On his part the PDP Chairman in Kaduna State, Chief A.G Haruna said the PDP is already carrying out the change that Nigerians need “Nigerians don’t need change from the other party which is mainly made up by people who decamped from our great party. The change they mean is to jump from one party to another and Nigerians cannot join in such change.”

The PDP campaign train has been received by large crowds of supporters in all the Local Governments and communities visited in Southern Kaduna. The campaign has so far held in Sanga, Kaura, Kagarko, Jaba and Jema’a Local Government Areas in the Southern Zone.
